Farmers’ markets to open soon around the county
For many of us, the long-awaited day is drawing near…it’s farmers’ market season and I couldn’t be more excited. Our local dirt, albeit a bit flooded lately, is yielding the very first fruits of the local harvest.
Here is look at the local markets and their opening days and times. Get ready to buy local, buy fresh and even buy organic. Remember to make these local markets a shopping habit before you head out to the grocery store. Not only will your taste buds thank you, but your wallet will, too. Plus, you get the added bonus of supporting our local farmers and bakers and makers, which feels pretty darn good.
- Main Street Delaware: Opens for season on May 21. Hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays on the east side of Sandusky Street and from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays on the west side of the street. The market runs from May 21 through Oct. 29.
- The Original Delaware Farmers’ Market: From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in the Jugette Barn beginning May 21 through October.

There are also markets in surrounding communities like Plain City, Marion, Dublin, Worthington and Westerville. Just look on-line for dates and times.
Enjoy this season of harvest and make a concerted effort to get some local food into your diet. It really makes a difference in so many ways, but primarily the taste and satisfaction of good, home-grown food and knowing exactly where that food comes from (which isn’t thousands of miles away). Bon appetit!
