Thomas D. Allen

Thomas D. Allen, 90, of Waverly and for­merly of Delaware passed away Fri­day (May 13, 2011).

Born in Evanston, Ill., he was a first lieu­tenant in the USMC. He grad­u­ated in 1951 from the Uni­ver­sity of Den­ver. He even­tu­ally became an audi­tor for the Army Audit Agency. After receiv­ing his master’s degree from LaSalle Uni­ver­sity, he taught at the OSU Mar­ion Cam­pus and Defense Sup­ply Depot in Colum­bus. Through­out his life, his musi­cal tal­ent led him to var­i­ous posi­tions as pianist and organ­ist. His social con­scious­ness and ded­i­ca­tion to giv­ing back led him to mul­ti­ple vol­un­teer projects includ­ing the Olen­tangy River Con­ser­va­tion Soci­ety and as co-founder of the Delaware Uni­tar­ian Uni­ver­sal­ist Fel­low­ship. He and his beloved wife Dorothy gave so many hours to read­ing for chil­dren at the Delaware Com­mu­nity Cen­ter, that per­ma­nent recog­ni­tion of their devo­tion is enshrined in a class­room ded­i­cated to them.

He is sur­vived by daugh­ter, Mar­garet; sons, Thomas III (Linda) and David (Stephanie); brother, Robert (Thelma); five grand­chil­dren; six great-grandchildren; and numer­ous nieces and nephews.

He was pre­ceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and six siblings.

A memo­r­ial ser­vice will be held at 2 p.m. May 28 at Bris­tol Vil­lage in Waverly, and on June 19 in Delaware dur­ing the DUUF Sun­day ser­vice. Inter­ment will be in Memo­r­ial Park Ceme­tery, Skokie, Ill. Arrange­ments are by Cook & Son-Pallay Funeral Home.
