The new green diaper
Okay, let’s talk diapers. Since I will be diapering a new baby bum later this summer, I’ve been researching some of the green options out there. There are chlorine-free disposables, which is good and some other eco-options, but the one that caught my eye is a new company with a product called gDiaper. With this brand, you no longer have to choose between cloth or disposable, you get to combine the two. Here’s the scoop: This eco-friendly diaper combines cloth diapers with disposable options. You buy the coverings — called gPants (which use no pins and no plastic), then you can either use the 100 percent disposable linings called gRefills or you can opt for the reusable gCloth inserts which are made from micro fleece and hemp/cotton. There is no folding of the cloths as they are easily inserted and removed. The diapers are plastic-free, elemental chlorine free, latex free and perfume free.
According to the site, gdiapers.com, all the materials are breathable, just like sports clothing, so babies are far less likely to get diaper rash. The gPants come in a rainbow of different colors and patterns and are, quite frankly, adorable in addition to being completely washable.
Get this staggering fact: 50 million diapers get tossed out each day — each day — and each one takes up to 500 years to biodegrade. With the disposable gRefill, you can improve your carbon footprint and your babies comfort as the liners can be composted at home, tossed or flushed. They have been thoroughly tested and break down in 50 to 150 days. Besides, interestingly enough, the gRefills are made and packaged right here in Ohio! The little gPants and the gCloth inserts are made in China, however, but the gDiaper company proclaims they are committed to exceeding good factory conditions and worker safety and social accountability.
The starter kit is on sale for awhile and I think we’ll give these gDiapers a try and see how it goes. The options for diapers are certainly much more vast compared to just eight years ago when we had our last. Think I’ll have any success in getting my teenagers to help me change diapers? Stay tuned.

Tuesday, my husband and I have been using gdiapers for almost 9 months now with our first son. We started out with Seventh Generation diapers to use during the meconium stage, but I think starting with the g’s would be just fine. We love them. They are super cute and are such a fantastic alternative to disposables. We also have the gcloths and used those a few times at the beginning, but since we both work full time, its much easier to use the grefills. And, I don’t feel bad about throwing them away or flushing since they are disposable! Much better than putting plastic covered chemicals on my baby“s bottom. I hope you decide to use them. There is a big market for buying used diaper covers and the gcloth. I still have all the small sizes and the gcloth size small that I plan to resell. Also, if you join Amazon Mom, you can get 30% off of cases of the grefills!!! We save so much money getting them this way and its free shipping. It is a subscription program so you can have them auto delivered each month, which works out great for us! Good luck!
