All area pets can be blessed Friday during a special ceremony at the Humane Society of Delaware County.
A Blessing of the Animals ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the society’s shelter, 4920 Ohio 37E in Delaware, in honor of National Homeless Animal Day. The public is encouraged to bring their pets and receive a personal blessing.
“We are very excited and honored to have Father Black of St. Mary’s Catholic Church visit our humane society and bless not only our shelter animals, but also our shelter itself,” says HSDC board member RoxAnne Ames. “Our private service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., with the public service immediately following at 11 a.m.”
The event is open to any and all pets — cats, dogs, hamsters, ponies, birds, etc. — as long as the pet is safely contained to a leash or carrier. The ceremony will take place rain or shine under a tent within the humane society’s fenced-in yard.
Donations are appreciated, but not required to receive a blessing. The humane society currently is in need of cat and kitten food and cat litter.
“This is one of our favorite events,” Ames said. “It is truly amazing how well all of the animals behave once the blessings begin. We hope everyone will bring their pets to join us for this wonderful event.”
The humane society will also be having adoption specials Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For more information, please call 740-369-7387.
