Gertrude Elizabeth Everett

Gertrude Eliz­a­beth Everett, 92, of rural New Bloom­ing­ton, passed away peace­fully in the home of her grand­son sur­rounded by the fam­ily she so loved, at 2:15 a.m. Fri­day (Aug. 26, 2011).

Gertrude was born in Ken­ton, on Feb. 17, 1919, to Sylvia (Der­ringer) and Henry Krock. She mar­ried Robert E. Everett on March 2, 1941, in New Bloom­ing­ton, and they cel­e­brated 69 years together before his pass­ing on Aug, 17, 2008. A grad­u­ate of Agosta High School (New Bloom­ing­ton), Gertrude worked as a nurse prac­ti­tioner at the Sawyer San­i­tar­ium in Mar­ion before begin­ning her life as a farmer’s wife and devoted mother. She was best-known for her love of feed­ing fam­ily and friends her award-winning baked and canned goods at the Mar­ion County Fair, and lis­ten­ing to her beloved Robert sing. She was a faith­ful mem­ber of New Bloom­ing­ton United Methodist Church and the Women’s Cir­cle until she moved to Fairhaven Retire­ment Com­mu­nity in 2007, and there she par­tic­i­pated in chapel ser­vices and bell choir.

Gertrude is sur­vived by daugh­ter, Bev­erly Chap­man (William) Roby of McCutchenville; a grand­son, Jason (Karen) Chap­man of Bucyrus; and a great-grandson, Cody E. Chap­man of Ontario; daugh­ter, Nancy (Tom) Hafer of LaRue and her chil­dren, Robert J. Hafer of Colum­bus and Kate­lynn R. Hafer of Tif­fin; a grand­daugh­ter, Heather Everett (Doug) Tread­away of New Bloom­ing­ton and her chil­dren, Dustin, Tyler and Alexis John­son; and a daughter-in-law, Paula Everett of rural Marion.

She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents; hus­band; two sons, John E. Everett and Ken­neth R. Everett; brother, Earl Krock; and sis­ters, Clari­belle Van­der­hoof and Mary Perry.

The funeral ser­vice for Gertrude will be held at 11 a.m. Tues­day, Aug. 30, at the New Bloom­ing­ton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robin Wells and the Rev. Mary Cur­tis offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will fol­low in LaRue Ceme­tery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Mon­day at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, LaRue, and before the ser­vice at the church.
