Delaware remembers Pearl Harbor attack
Maxine E. Frey, 80, of Delaware died Thursday afternoon (Aug. 4, 2011) at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
She was born May 20, 1931, to William Eckard and Mae (Edwards) Eckard. She lived in Central Ohio most of her life. At various stages of her life she was a home-maker, nurse’s aide (Morrow County Hospital), waitress (Angel’s 23), factory worker (Ranco) and a nanny. Maxine enjoyed being with people and made friends easily. She was known for her lightheartedness, her radiant smile and her sense of humor. She loved music, cooking and playing cards with her friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by three sons, Bill (Nancy) Henry of Roslyn, Pa., Don (Sandy) Henry of Mount Gilead and Craig (Linda) Henry of Canton; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fannie Criswell of Prospect and Christine Stover of Marion; plus numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Frey, of Ashley (in 1996); four brothers, Ralph, Roy, Woodrow and Wilbert Eckard; and five sisters, Marjorie Perry, Sylvia Clark, Mabel Heinlen, Dorothy Ramsey and Ann Gatlin.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 307 E. High St., Ashley. A service in celebration of her life will follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Brantingham officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery.
