Gathel Zane Crum Harris

Gathel Zane Crum Har­ris, 85, died Fri­day (Sept. 23, 2011).

She was born to Wal­ter and Eliz­a­beth Hen­der­shot Crum on Dec. 30, 1925.

Gathel grad­u­ated from Card­ing­ton High School in 1943. After high school, Gathel mar­ried Calvin Glenn Har­ris in 1946; he pre­ceded her in death in 1990. Gathel was a lov­ing Chris­t­ian woman who enjoyed serv­ing oth­ers. She and her sis­ter Alice and a friend, Norma Hughes, sang for wed­dings, recep­tions, musi­cal shows, funer­als and were known as the Tones. She was an active mem­ber at Rich­land Road Church of Christ where she was part of a sewing group and enjoyed help­ing at Vaca­tion Bible School. In her younger years she bowled reg­u­larly in a league and also enjoyed play­ing golf and soft­ball. Gathel worked as the sec­re­tary to the pres­i­dent at HPM for 43 years and retired from there in 1988.

Gathel is sur­vived by son, Val (Lynn) Har­ris of Lewis Cen­ter; daugh­ter, Jill (Bob) Humphreys of Spring, Texas; grand­sons, Tim (Angela) Har­ris of Pick­er­ing­ton and Bobby Humphreys of Spring, Texas; grand­daugh­ter, Amy (Kenny) Scobee of Spring, Texas; great-grandson, Aidan Har­ris; step great-grandson Dutch Scobee; one sis­ter, Alice Beal; and one sister-in-law, Aggie Crum. Many nieces, nephews and cousins will miss her infec­tious smile.

She was pre­ceded in death by broth­ers and sis­ters, George, Bessie, Bill, Joe, Ed, Kate, Dick, War­ren, Gene, Bud, Franklin and Ward. Her grand­daugh­ter Bethany also pre­ceded her in death in 2002.

The fam­ily would like to express their grat­i­tude for the lov­ing care pro­vided to Gathel at Kingston Mem­ory Care.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 26, at Gompf Funeral Home in Card­ing­ton where the funeral ser­vice will be held at 10 a.m. Tues­day, Sept. 27. The Rev. Rus­sell Howard of the Rich­land Road Church of Christ will offi­ci­ate and the bur­ial will fol­low in Glen­dale Cemetery.

Gathel loved flow­ers and if you would like to send them that is fine. How­ever, if you would rather make a memo­r­ial con­tri­bu­tion, the fam­ily is sug­gest­ing The Alzheimer Foun­da­tion or Amer­i­can Heart Association.
