Gathel Zane Crum Harris, 85, died Friday (Sept. 23, 2011).
She was born to Walter and Elizabeth Hendershot Crum on Dec. 30, 1925.
Gathel graduated from Cardington High School in 1943. After high school, Gathel married Calvin Glenn Harris in 1946; he preceded her in death in 1990. Gathel was a loving Christian woman who enjoyed serving others. She and her sister Alice and a friend, Norma Hughes, sang for weddings, receptions, musical shows, funerals and were known as the Tones. She was an active member at Richland Road Church of Christ where she was part of a sewing group and enjoyed helping at Vacation Bible School. In her younger years she bowled regularly in a league and also enjoyed playing golf and softball. Gathel worked as the secretary to the president at HPM for 43 years and retired from there in 1988.
Gathel is survived by son, Val (Lynn) Harris of Lewis Center; daughter, Jill (Bob) Humphreys of Spring, Texas; grandsons, Tim (Angela) Harris of Pickerington and Bobby Humphreys of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Amy (Kenny) Scobee of Spring, Texas; great-grandson, Aidan Harris; step great-grandson Dutch Scobee; one sister, Alice Beal; and one sister-in-law, Aggie Crum. Many nieces, nephews and cousins will miss her infectious smile.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, George, Bessie, Bill, Joe, Ed, Kate, Dick, Warren, Gene, Bud, Franklin and Ward. Her granddaughter Bethany also preceded her in death in 2002.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 26, at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. The Rev. Russell Howard of the Richland Road Church of Christ will officiate and the burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery.
Gathel loved flowers and if you would like to send them that is fine. However, if you would rather make a memorial contribution, the family is suggesting The Alzheimer Foundation or American Heart Association.
