Janice R. Schroeder

Jan­ice R. Schroeder, 74, of Delaware died at 5:15 a.m. Sun­day (Sept. 11, 2011) at her res­i­dence fol­low­ing a brief illness.

She was born April 19,1937, in New Knoxville, the daugh­ter of Ray­mond and Aurora (Wier­wille) Evers­man. She mar­ried Charles Schroeder on March 13, 1954 and he sur­vives at the res­i­dence. Jan­ice was a 1955 grad­u­ate of New Knoxville High School. She had for­merly worked at Joint Town­ship Dis­trict Memo­r­ial Hos­pi­tal in Saint Marys and as a guide at the Bloom­field Hills School Farm. She had worked as a sec­re­tary in Elliot Hall at Ohio Wes­leyan Uni­ver­sity in Delaware for the past 23 years. Jan­ice was also a won­der­ful home­maker, wife and mother. She enjoyed writ­ing poetry, trav­el­ing, flower gar­den­ing, bird watch­ing and mak­ing bou­quets of flow­ers for her church. She loved liv­ing on her farm and watch­ing the horses there. Jan­ice was deeply devoted to her church, the Old Stone Pres­by­ter­ian Church in Delaware, where she served as a trustee. She was respon­si­ble for the new sound sys­tem at the church and also the new bell, which rang for the first time on the day of Janice’s death.

Besides her hus­band, she is also sur­vived by her two sons, Robin Schroeder of Delaware and Joe (MaryLee) Schroeder of Martha’s Vine­yard, Mass; four grand­chil­dren, Saman­tha Schroeder, Alexia Schroeder, Michael Schroeder and Whit­ney Schroeder; and by a sis­ter, Grace Fau­rot of New Knoxville.

She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents; and by a son, Michael Schroeder.

A cel­e­bra­tion of Janice’s life will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednes­day, Sept. 14, at the Old Stone Pres­by­ter­ian Church, 41 Hodges Road, Delaware, with the Rev. Jim Dubois and the Rev. Dick Wier­wille as offi­ciants. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of ser­vices at the church. A sec­ond cel­e­bra­tion of her life will be held 1 p.m. Thurs­day, Sept. 15, at the church where Jan­ice grew up, the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville with the Rev Jim Dubois, the Rev. Dick Wier­wille and the Rev. David Williams as offi­ciants. Bur­ial will fol­low at Pil­ger Ruhe Ceme­tery in New Knoxville. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of ser­vices at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where memo­r­ial dona­tions may be made to the Old Stone Pres­by­ter­ian Church.
