John R. Burns Sr.

John R. Burns Sr., 100, died Sat­ur­day (Sept. 3, 2011) at Wil­low Brook fol­low­ing a short illness.

He was born Jan. 3, 1911 to Harley E. Burns and Emma Myr­tle Terry. He was a World War II Army vet­eran and was retired from the Army Depo in Columbus.

Sur­vivors include a son, John R. Burns, Jr., of Delaware; a sis­ter, Mar­garet Ridge of Char­lottesville, Va.; a grand­daugh­ter, Pamela Sue Burns Star­ling (Larry Star­ling) of Delaware; a grand­son, John R. Burns, III (Melanie Couch Burns) of Ontario, Canada; and three great-granddaughters: Amanda Brooke Star­ling Wind­hof (Tim Wind­hof) of Munich, Ger­many; Emily Marie Burns, of Ontario, Canada; and Rebecca Rene Burns of Ontario, Canada.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents; his wife, Vivian Anne Spon­sler; his sis­ter, Fran­cis Burn­ham; his daughter-in-law, G. Pauline Yost Burns; two brothers-in-law, John Ridge and Bryson Burnham.

A grave­side ser­vice will be at 2 p.m. Fri­day, Sept. 9, 2011 at Oak Grove Ceme­tery. The Delaware County Vet­er­ans Asso­ci­a­tion will con­duct full mil­i­tary honors.
