Library organizes group for movie buffs

Book discussion groups have long been a staple of the Delaware County District Library, with multiple discussion scheduled each month at Library locations. The staff at the Orange Branch Library, 7171 Gooding Blvd. is making a leap in another direction—a community film discussion!

Called the “DCDL Cinematheque,” the group will meet twice monthly to view and discuss classic and influential cinema in an informal group setting. A public screening of each film will be held in the meeting room, with a group discussion to take place two weeks following. Copies of each film will be available for checkout on a first come, first served basis.

On Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m., the group will meet to discuss “In Bruges,” a 2008 movie directed by Martin McDonagh (the film was screened on Aug. 24, but you could still check it out and watch it on your own). “The Shining,” (1980; directed by Stanley Kubrick) will be shown on Sept. 21 with the discussion on Oct. 6. On Oct. 19, you can watch “Ace in the Hole,” (1951; directed by Billy Wilder) and join in the discussion on Nov. 3. Finally, the film to be discussed on Dec. 1 is “Mulholland Drive” (2001; directed by David Lynch) that will be screened on Nov. 16. All screenings begin at 6:30 p.m. and all discussions begin at 7:30 p.m.

If you like movies, and if you like discussing them with other movie buffs, plan to join the “DCDL Cinematheque Community Film Discussion Group” at the Orange Branch in the coming months. And the popcorn is on us!
