Ends long career
The Greater Powell Area Chamber of Commerce now has an executive director.
Longtime Delaware County resident Nancy Buckley, 52, was promoted to the post by the chamber board due to the recent growth in membership. She has been with the chamber since 2007.
“I’m very excited,” said Buckley, who has several years business experience and four years with the Greater Powell Area Chamber of Commerce.
Buckley has been an important part of recruiting and retaining membership and fostering a relationship with the greater Powell area, chamber members said. The Greater Powell Area Chamber of Commerce has come a long way since Buckley originally joined the staff.
In January 2007, the chamber had just 120 members, but by April of the same year, 45 new members were added. At the beginning of the year, the chamber had 286 members and was striving to pass the 300-member mark, a goal reached in early August.
Buckley continues to grow membership and wants to work on retaining members. Providing more educational events for members is another priority, she said.
The chamber also continues to offer its monthly networking events, Chamber Connection and After Hours, as well as Lunch and Learn. Buckley plans on restructuring the After Hours event and provide an educational component during the first half and soliciting ideas from members on what those topics might be, such as changing tax laws or using social media.
The chamber, which serves Powell, Liberty Township and other communities, underwent some restructuring in late 2006. In 2007, there were talks of merging with the Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce, but in the end, Powell wanted to keep its own identity. The following year, the Powell chamber moved from its old office space at 447 Village Park Drive to the current 50 S. Liberty St., Suite 170 location.
Buckley’s position also allows for expanded chamber office hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The chamber’s website, which will soon be revamped, is located at powellchamber.com; the phone number is 614-888-1090.
