Judy Marie (Sanders) Cokonougher

Judy Marie (Sanders) Cokonougher, 61, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Oct. 19, 2011) at OSU James Cancer Hospital after a five month battle.

Judy was born March 16, 1950 in Chillicothe to Norman Douglas and Marilyn Louise (McDill) Sanders, who preceded her in death. Judy was a 1968 graduate of Unioto High School and a 1972 graduate of Ohio University with a degree in Elementary Education. She held positions in various Educational Organizations as Teacher, Financial Aid Officer (CCAD) and Day Care owner (Courtright Academy). She recently retired as an Administrative Director for the Children’s Dyslexia Center of Columbus (a Masonic Charity) in Dublin. She loved her job using the Orton-Gillingham method for tutoring children with Dyslexia and managing the business affairs of the center. Judy was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, Loraine Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star. She exemplified the phrase “Proud to be a Mason’s Lady” as she supported her husband’s Masonic activities. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her smile was infectious and she never met a stranger. She was the ultimate hostess. Judy took great joy in giving to others, always having a gift in waiting for any occasion. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her grandchildren doing arts and crafts, tending to her flowers, and bargain shopping. Judy will be greatly missed by all who knew her and is leaving a void that cannot be filled. Her legacy will live for eternity.

She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years and best friend, Steven E. Cokonougher; daughter, Amie (Michael) Fleck; son, Jason Cokonougher; grandson, Jacob Michael Fleck and granddaughter, Bailey Lynn Fleck. She is also survived by one sister, Barbara (Sanders) Lawhorn of Chillicothe; nephews, Joseph Lawhorn and Brian Cokonougher, and niece, Emily Woodruff. She had so many friends that it would be impossible to list all.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at McKendree United Methodist Church, 3330 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, with the Rev. Cathy Herrington officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation hours will be held at McKendree United Methodist Church from 1 to 3 and 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Children’s Dyslexia Center of Columbus, 290 Crammer Creek Ct., Dublin, OH 43017. Arrangements completed by Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High St., Worthington, OH 43085.
