Loretta E. Nichols, 100, died Oct. 20, 2011 in Delaware.
She was born in Miller City to Celestian and Elizabeth Noirot. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Her smile would brighten up a room and her sense of humor and positive attitude made everyone who knew her love her. Gardening, cooking, raising her family and keeping house were her lifelong passions. During World War II, she worked at the Canvas Factory in Delaware making tents for the soldiers. She also babysat for many years. Gooseberry Patch hired her as its very first employee in 1985. She worked in the warehouse picking and packing orders until she was 82 years old.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janet R. Schaeper (Pickerington) and Vickie L. Hutchins (Delaware); her grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff (Isabella) Schaeper, Jerry (Esther) Schaeper, Jim (Terri) Schaeper, James P. McCaw, Jeanne (Terry) Brown, Judy (Todd) Cortelletti, Matt Hutchins and Emily (Matt) Ellis. She has 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. A special thank-you to her long-time friends, Jane and Ray Jacobs and family.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters; her husband, Paul E. Nichols; and her granddaughter, Joanne Schaeper McCaw.
The family would like to express their thanks to Delaware Court Healthcare Center and to St. Mary Catholic Church for their excellent care and compassion.
Viewing hours will be between 2 and 5 p.m. with prayer vigil at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, at Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter St., Delaware. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. James Black as celebrant followed by internment in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
