First off, I have to give kudos to the group Sustainable Delaware for its endeavors in our community. This group has grown from a handful of citizens interested in looking into “greening” our city to a full-fledged group of active community members who care about making Delaware more sustainable and providing all of us opportunities to learn and grow “green wise.” They do this by promoting environmental, social and economic sustainability through special events, both educational and social, and by creating awareness through various programs and the local media.

An event coming up which is sponsored by them and coordinated by Global Village Collections sounds really fun and educational all in one. (By the way, kudos to Global Village as well for their amazing programming efforts and for their upcoming move to the space next door to Beehive Books.) On Friday, Oct. 14, at dusk behind the Beehive Books in downtown Delaware, movie hour will commence with ice cream available for purchase from Whit’s Frozen Yogurt. The movie, “Forks Over Knives,” examines the claim that most, if not all, degenerative diseases can be controlled, or even reversed, by omitting animal-based and processed foods. Now this I have to see because I agree with this philosophy in theory. Okay, and I want some Whit’s frozen yogurt!

Admission to this event is free and will move indoors if it rains. Please bring a lawn chair and dress for the weather (it’s Ohio — one never knows what to expect). The group also has a clever suggestion that you bring a dryer sheet to keep the bugs away.

This event is part of Second Friday Film Festival which is sponsored by a partnership of Global Village Collection, Main Street Delaware, Beehive Books and Sustainable Delaware.

If this kind of programming interests you or you would like to know more about this active group that meets monthly, please take a minute to go online to sustainabledelawareohio.org and check out the website. The resource listing alone is a valuable tool for anyone in our community, especially if you are new to the area. You can also sign up to be on their listserv to get more information.
