Betty Jane (Rodgers) Gray, of South Daytona, Fla., and formerly of Ostrander passed away, Monday evening (Nov. 14, 2011) on her 93rd birthday, at Good Samaritan Society, Daytona Beach, Fla.
Betty was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Delaware County to Clarence E. and Ruby (Patingale) Rodgers. She graduated as valedictorian from Bellpoint High School in 1936, and later attended Columbus Business School. She was a former member of Millcreek Baptist Church and co-owned Gray’s Sinclair Station for more than 20 years with her husband, Burdette, in Ostrander. After his death, she moved to South Daytona and became a real estate broker.
Betty was an avid Orlando Magic basketball fan. She was a positive person and found humor in every situation. She adored her family, who came first in her thoughts and life even though they lived all over the country. Betty had a good nature and was appreciated by anyone she met. Until the end of her life, Betty was curious about the world and was always eager to learn as much as she could about many topics.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Sherry) Gray of Scottsdale, Ariz., Judi Lebel of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael (York) Gray of Glen Allen, Va., and Patricia Gray of South Daytona; sister, Winnie (Bob) Orahood of Delaware; grandchildren, Deborah Hammond of San Diego, Calif., Tiffany Gray of Mesa, Ariz., Laura Jackson of Mount Vernon, Tracey Gray of Scottsdale, Shannon Mercer of Jacksonville, Daniel Gray of Newport Beach, Calif., Erin Selk of Norfolk, Va., Matthew Gray of Savannah, Ga., and Penny Gray of Pensacola, Fla.; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, G. Burdette Gray; a son, Robert (Linda); brothers, Rex (Winifred) and James (Darlene) Rodgers; and sister, Isabelle (Chester) Scott.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter St., Delaware, where services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Ostrander.
Florida arrangements were handled by Lohman Funeral Home, Daytona Beach.
