Sophomore Melissa Ward (Delaware/Home) posted Ohio Wesleyan’s best individual finish at the House of Champions meet, hosted by Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis.

The meet, which included competitors from Ball State, Butler, Centre, Eastern Illinois, IUPUI, Ohio Wesleyan, St. Louis, Western Illinois and Xavier, was not scored.

Ward finished eighth in the 100 butterfly and added a 25th-place finish in the 100 backstroke and a 27th-place effort in the 50 freestyle.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Katie Helfrich (Marysville), who placed 12th in the 100 breaststroke, 15th in the 200 breaststroke, and 36th in the 200 IM; senior Marina Metzler (Columbia, Md./Hammond), who placed 12th in the 200 butterfly; sophomore Olivia Gillison (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central), who was 20th in the 1650 freestyle; freshman Jacquelyn Zola (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), who finished 21st in the 100 butterfly and 24th in the 100 freestyle; senior Anne McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves), who was 24th in the 100 backstroke and 26th in the 200 backstroke; and senior Ali Russ (Shaker Heights), who finished 25th in the 100 butterfly.

Sophomore Taylor Smith (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the House of Champions meet, hosted by Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis.

Smith finished eighth in both the 200 and 1650 freestyles, and added an 11th-place finish in the 500 freestyle.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Marcus Ramirez (Ukiah, Calif.), who placed seventh in the 100 butterfly, tied for 15th in the 50 freestyle, and was 21st in the 100 backstroke; freshman Matthew Mahoney (Nashua, N.H./Phillips Academy), who was 11th in the 200 IM, 12th in the 100 breaststroke, and 19th in the 100 butterfly; sophomore Sean Anthony (Coldwater), who was 14th in the 200 breaststroke, 16th in the 200 IM, and 25th in the 500 freestyle; sophomore Nate Hennessy (Chesapeake/St. Joseph (W.Va.)), who finished 19th in the 200 butterfly; senior Jesse Sheldon (Mansfield/Ontario), who placed 20th in the 100 backstroke; and junior Jacob Perl (Mansfield/Senior), who was 22nd in the 100 breaststroke.

The Bishop 800 freestyle relay team of Smith, Anthony, Ramirez and Mahoney was fourth in the standings in its event.
