Byrdie M. Owens, 89, of Sunbury passed away at home Monday (Oct. 31, 2011).
She was born on March 1, 1922 in Brantwood, Wis., to the late Helmi (Kallio) and Gust Takala. An area resident since 1990, she had been employed as a registration clerk with various health care providers. Byrdie married Roy Owens, her beloved husband of 63 years in 1941. Together they traveled the world during his 30 year military career, raising a family and sharing the joys of life. He passed away in 2004. Both loving and caring, she treasured her family and always put the needs of others before her own. In addition to traveling she enjoyed shopping and was an avid reader.
She is survived by children, Donald Owens and Dianne (Ronnie) Evans of Galena; five grandchildren, Dana, Carrie, Nichole, Devan and Donnie; three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Megan and Bridgett; and brother, Henry Takala.
She was also preceded in death by sons, Dwayne and Dale Owens; and sisters, Arloa Takala and Lorraine Schnelle.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 2 p.m. memorial service on Friday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where the Rev. Lloyd Markley will officiate.
