An Olentangy Wellness Expo set for Thursday will benefit the Hyatts Middle School greenhouse project.
The second annual wellness expo, scheduled from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hyatts Middle School, 6885 Sawmill Parkway, Powell, is a free family event showcasing local experts in the areas of nutrition, health and fitness, sports and vision and dental.
All proceeds from those for-profit businesses paying for a booth, as well as money from the raffle articles, will benefit the construction fund for the Hyatts Middle School greenhouse project, said Melissa Byard, a seventh-grade teacher at Hyatts.
“Our goal this year is to bring awareness to different healthy products and options, not only focusing on health, fitness and food, but incorporating all aspects of wellness, such as financial and environmental wellness,” Byard said.
Nearly 90 vendors have confirmed their participation in the event with many “green” products available being produced from recycled materials and with “green” technology.
Several free health screenings will be available, such as blood pressure checks and body mass index.
So far, the Hyatts greenhouse project has raised about $9,000, but the group is looking for between $15,000 to $18,000 to get the building started. Once fundraising is finished, the group hopes to get construction underway, Byard said.
“I truly believe the expo is a great way the community can come together,” Byard said.
