COLUMBUS — The pep­per spray­ing of juve­nile inmates in Sep­tem­ber broke numer­ous state rules and was with­out excep­tion unwar­ranted, a court-appointed mon­i­tor con­cluded in a report. The state has argued a vio­lent gang out­break jus­ti­fied the spraying.

Weather dampens start of Ohio deer hunt

COLUMBUS — Ohio’s deer sea­son has got­ten off to a soggy start as rain con­tributed to lower opening-day num­bers. The Ohio Depart­ment of Nat­ural Resources says hunters with guns on Mon­day bagged 23,600 white-tailed deer. That was down 39 per­cent com­pared to the first day of last year’s hunt, when weather con­di­tions were described as “near ideal.”

PHILADELPHIA — For­mer Penn State assis­tant foot­ball coach Jerry San­dusky sex­u­ally abused a boy more than 100 times, and threat­ened to harm his fam­ily to keep him quiet, accord­ing to a law­suit filed Wednes­day by a new accuser who is not part of the crim­i­nal case.
