Richard J. (Rick) Shepard

Richard J. (Rick) Shep­ard, 64, of Delaware, passed away Wednes­day after­noon Nov. 23, 2011 at the Kobacker House, Colum­bus, after a coura­geous 9 year bat­tle with cancer.

He was born April 24, 1947 in Can­ton, Ohio to the late James and Helen (Daniluk) Shep­ard. Rick spent most of his life in Can­ton, grad­u­at­ing from Timken High School and Mal­one Col­lege. While in Can­ton, he was employed at Her­cules Engines. Rick moved to the Colum­bus area in 1994, where he was employed in the pur­chas­ing areas of Honda of Amer­ica Man­u­fac­tur­ing in Marysville. Through his work, he trav­eled through North and South Amer­ica and later Japan. After retire­ment, he began Shep­ard Tech­ni­cal Resources LLC. He was a rec­og­nized author­ity in man­u­fac­tur­ing. He lived an active life enjoy­ing sports and out­door activ­i­ties includ­ing run­ning and sail boat­ing. He was the sec­ond Com­modore of the Sail­ing Buck­eyes Yacht Club. He also enjoyed fish­ing and hunt­ing. Rick was a mem­ber of SASS and many local out­door and cow­boy clubs with his alias being “Lead­slinger Shep.” Dur­ing retire­ment, he com­pleted many wood­work­ing projects and liked to demon­strate knot tying skills. Rick trea­sured time spent with his fam­ily. He lived an unpre­ten­tious lifestyle and espoused tra­di­tional values.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 42 years, Jill (Sigelmier) Shep­ard; son, Eric and his wife Dawn; daugh­ter, Kris­ten Schnei­der and her hus­band Scott; grand­daugh­ter, Alli­son Shep­ard; 2 sis­ters, Paula Lin­damood and Pam Burkett.

Cel­e­bra­tion of Life Ser­vices will be held at 7 p.m. Thurs­day Dec. 1 at the All Shep­herds Lutheran Church, 6580 U.S. 23, Lewis Cen­ter, Ohio 43035 with Dr. Art Haimerl offi­ci­at­ing. The fam­ily will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until time of ser­vices. Pri­vate fam­ily grave­side ser­vices will be held at King­wood Memo­r­ial Park Ceme­tery. In lieu of flow­ers, memo­r­ial con­tri­bu­tions in Rick’s mem­ory can be made to the All Shep­herds Lutheran Church Memo­r­ial Fund.
