Richard J. (Rick) Shepard
Richard J. (Rick) Shepard, 64, of Delaware, passed away Wednesday afternoon Nov. 23, 2011 at the Kobacker House, Columbus, after a courageous 9 year battle with cancer.
He was born April 24, 1947 in Canton, Ohio to the late James and Helen (Daniluk) Shepard. Rick spent most of his life in Canton, graduating from Timken High School and Malone College. While in Canton, he was employed at Hercules Engines. Rick moved to the Columbus area in 1994, where he was employed in the purchasing areas of Honda of America Manufacturing in Marysville. Through his work, he traveled through North and South America and later Japan. After retirement, he began Shepard Technical Resources LLC. He was a recognized authority in manufacturing. He lived an active life enjoying sports and outdoor activities including running and sail boating. He was the second Commodore of the Sailing Buckeyes Yacht Club. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Rick was a member of SASS and many local outdoor and cowboy clubs with his alias being “Leadslinger Shep.” During retirement, he completed many woodworking projects and liked to demonstrate knot tying skills. Rick treasured time spent with his family. He lived an unpretentious lifestyle and espoused traditional values.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jill (Sigelmier) Shepard; son, Eric and his wife Dawn; daughter, Kristen Schneider and her husband Scott; granddaughter, Allison Shepard; 2 sisters, Paula Lindamood and Pam Burkett.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday Dec. 1 at the All Shepherds Lutheran Church, 6580 U.S. 23, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035 with Dr. Art Haimerl officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until time of services. Private family graveside services will be held at Kingwood Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rick’s memory can be made to the All Shepherds Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
