John R. Herriott

John R. Her­riott, 84, of Mar­ion and for­merly of Ostran­der, passed away Wednes­day (Dec. 28, 2011) at his home.

He was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Ostran­der, to Wilbur and Frances Liggett Her­riott. He grad­u­ated from Ostran­der High School in 1948. He was a retired employee of W.G. Her­riott and Sons, Popright, Mar­ion Power Shovel and Rhodes Heat­ing and Air Con­di­tion­ing. He served in the Ohio National Guard from 1947 through 1954, end­ing his career as Mas­ter Sergeant. He was a for­mer scout mas­ter of Boy Scout Troop 184 in Ostran­der and also enjoyed hunt­ing. He was a mem­ber of the Mar­ion First Pres­by­ter­ian Church.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Jolyn (Smith) Her­riott, whom he mar­ried July 26, 1953; his chil­dren, Debra (Nat) Willauer of Mar­ion, Lonn (Karen) Her­riott of Mar­ion, Donna Her­riott of Colum­bus, Paula Wray of Mar­ion and Betty Hoile of Marysville; grand­chil­dren, Adam (Car­rie) Willauer, Lisa (William) Lupo, Lau­ren (Ron) John­son, Jonathan Wray, Mol­lie (Joel) Gent, Jes­sica Hoile, Amanda (Wes) Brown, Dustin Wray, Jodie (Charles) Gip­son, Dou­glas Hoile and Halee Wray; great-grandchildren, Matthew Willauer, Cameron Kretsinger, Joel Gent III, Brody John­son, Domenic Lupo, Rylee Gip­son, Parker John­son, Ari­ana Wray and Jaxon Gent; step-granddaughter, Kim Wray Cole­man and her daugh­ters Nishyah and Alexis; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was pre­ceded in death by his brother, Robert; sis­ter, Dixie; a grand­son, James Wray; and great-granddaughter, Addi­son Willauer.

A vis­i­ta­tion will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sun­day and from 10 to 11 a.m. Mon­day at the Robin­son Funeral Home, 32 W. William St., Delaware, where a funeral ser­vice will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rob Howard offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will be in the Fairview Ceme­tery in Ostran­der.
