You are invited to the Holiday Open House

You are cordially invited to the Delaware County District Library’s Holiday Open Houses this weekend, held at all district library locations. Please help us celebrate another successful year at the library while enjoying refreshments and music in a friendly atmosphere.

Holiday Open Houses, generously sponsored by our Friends of the Library and Meijer, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Orange and Ostrander branches and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Delaware (Main) Library and the Powell Branch. I hope you plan to stop by to allow us to wish you a wonderful holiday season.

While you’re at the library, plan to pick up the latest edition of “Check It Out,” the library’s quarterly newsletter. This issue spotlights teens, in a “teen takeover at the library,” and is peppered with photos of precocious and energetic kids. Teen Librarian Mandy Henning, who has worked at the library since April, has developed educational (but don’t tell the kids!) and exciting programs for tweens and teens — book clubs, gaming tournaments with Xbox and Wii, and programs on cupcake decorating, candle making, anime, henna, yoga and many more.

Mandy is launching a “Read It First Book Discussion Group,” where teens will be able to read and keep copies of books that haven’t even been published yet. They can write an online review or discuss their book during a monthly meet-up at the library. If you know a teen who may be interested, contact Mandy at 740–362-3861.

At the Delaware County District Library, we are working diligently to provide you and your family with the resources, programs, information and experience that you want. Stop by soon and I think you’ll discover that we’re certainly not your grandfather’s library!
