Lucille V. ‘Lucy’ Gibson

Lucille V. “Lucy” Gib­son, 89, of Delaware died Mon­day (Jan. 2, 2012) at River­side Methodist Hospital.

The last of six chil­dren born to the late Fred and Mary Price, Lucy was born in Pow­ell and grad­u­ated from Colum­bus North High School, Class of 1940. She retired from the Olen­tangy School Dis­trict, was a Docent, Emer­i­tus of the Colum­bus Zoo and was a past Camp­Fire leader. Lucy attended the for­mer Hyatts United Methodist Church (Lib­erty United Methodist Church).

She is sur­vived by her three daugh­ters, Sharon (Dick) Wha­ley of Colum­bus, Car­olyn (Rich) Rec­tor of Gal­loway and Karen Clip­ner of Delaware; eight grand­chil­dren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

She was pre­ceded in death by her beloved hus­band, Woodrow “Woody” Gib­son; son, Larry Wayne Gib­son; and son-in-law, Larry Clipner.

A memo­r­ial ser­vice will be held at 2 p.m. Sun­day, Jan. 8, at the Ruther­ford Funeral Home at Pow­ell, 450 W. Olen­tangy St., Pow­ell, 614–792-1471, where fam­ily will receive friends one hour before the ser­vice begin­ning at 1 p.m. The Revs. John Ger­ard and Steve Davis will be offi­ci­at­ing. (The funeral home is located on West Olen­tangy Street/Powell Road/Ohio 750, ¼ mile east of Sawmill Parkway.)

If they choose, friends may make memo­r­ial con­tri­bu­tions to Lucy’s favorite char­ity: The Colum­bus Zoo and Aquar­ium, PO Box 400, Pow­ell, OH 43065.
