Hayes, boosted by a strong night from its big guys and a total of five forfeit wins, knocked off a banged-up Big Walnut squad 42-27 during Thursday’s OCC-Capital Division dual meet in Delaware.

The Pacers were powered by Cody Wooten (182 pounds) and Shawn Johnson (195), who picked up back-to-back pins in impressive fashion. Wooten forced the Golden Eagles’ Jhordan Lang to the mat in 1:43 while Johnson pinned Niko Masters in 2:54.

Other Hayes winners included Colton Christner (285), Nathan Stewert (113), Seth McCurdy (126), Nick Beyer (132) and Brandon Holloway (138), who grabbed the aforementioned forfeit wins.

A match between a pair of freshman, the Pacers’ Kaylee Cast (120) and Eagles’ Tyler Satterfield, proved to be one of the more exciting showdowns of the night, as both had a handful of highlights before Satterfield earned the major decision with a 19-8 win. After Satterfield jumped out to a big lead thanks in part to near fall in the first period, Cast showed her resilience with a near fall of her own in the third. But, as was the case when Cast was almost pinned, Satterfield escaped and held on for the well-earned result — a win that gave his team a bit of momentum heading into the middle weights.

The bulk of Big Walnut’s points came in the four matches between the 145- and 170-pound divisions as Tyler Schenz (145) knocked off Andrew Nesselroad, C.J. Harness (152) picked up a major decision over Toby Cook, Aaron Gase (160) beat Raymond Simpson and Alec Eisnnicher handled Andrew Sierawski in a highly-anticipated showdown at 170.

The Eagles’ other win came at 220, where Gene Hogg pinned Reece Kotaka in 51 seconds to smooth out the scoring.

Hayes improved to 4-2 in the league with the win while Big Walnut’s league mark dipped to 3-3 with the setback.
