Commissioners grant 2 percent raises to 400 county employees

After spar­ring last Thurs­day over eli­gi­bil­ity cri­te­ria for a pro­posed cost-of-living pay increase for some county employ­ees, Delaware County com­mis­sion­ers on Mon­day voted 2–1 in favor of a 2 per­cent pay increase. After going with­out any increases in pay since 2008, com­mis­sion­ers are hop­ing to reward the approx­i­mately 400 employ­ees under their direc­tion with a 2 per­cent bump in salary, a con­cept that all three com­mis­sion­ers are fully behind.

In the wake of a Gazette report detail­ing Delaware County Com­mis­sioner Ken O’Brien’s request for an inves­ti­ga­tion into county eco­nomic devel­op­ment direc­tor Gus Comstock’s accep­tance of tick­ets to sport­ing events, fel­low com­mis­sioner Den­nis Sta­ple­ton asked Mon­day for the inves­ti­ga­tion to expand to cover all county employ­ees and the gifts they may have accepted.
