Robert Eugene Madaffer

Robert Eugene Madaf­fer died on Jan. 18 after a short illness.

He was born May 10, 1927 in Navarre. He grad­u­ated from Navarre High School, The Ohio State Uni­ver­sity and Cor­nell Uni­ver­sity. He served in the Navy in World War II. He taught at White­hall Hall Year­ling High School. He was a mem­ber of the Acad­emy of Sci­ence. He was a mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Legion for more than 50 years and a revered mem­ber of the Boy’s State Leg­isla­tive Pro­gram. He vol­un­teered at Bex­ley High School and Bex­ley Pub­lic Schools and was a long­time vol­un­teer and bar­tender for CAPA. His great­est joy was drum and bugle corp and he fol­lowed his favorite corps as they com­peted across the United States. He was known for his great boom­ing voice and laugh and his pas­sion for sci­ence. He loved Christ­mas, model rail­roads par­tic­u­larly the Santa Fe Chief, sym­phonic and baroque music, and a well-made mar­tini with a splash of good scotch.

He is sur­vived by his brother, Thomas Madaf­fer of Mas­sil­lon; a sis­ter, Cyn­thia McFar­ren (Madaf­fer); and nieces and nephews. He was loved by his stu­dents, many of whom became adopted fam­ily that con­tin­ued to love and sup­port him through his long strug­gle with Alzheimer’s.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Joseph and Irene (Sis­ter­hen) Madaf­fer; and his wife, Faye (Cornelius).

A cel­e­bra­tion of his life will be held at noon Sat­ur­day, Feb. 11, at Wil­low Brook at Delaware Run, 100 Delaware Cross­ing West in Delaware.
