Wanda Mae Freeman

Wanda Mae Free­man, 81, of But­ler passed away Thurs­day evening (Jan. 19, 2012) in Colo­nial Manor Nurs­ing Home fol­low­ing a brief illness.

She was born April 18, 1930 in Delaware to Vaughn A. and Nel­lie E. (Wal­lace) Parmer, and was grad­u­ated from Delaware Hayes High School in 1948. On Aug. 22, 1948, she mar­ried Bernard A. Free­man who pre­ceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2004. Together they started their farm in Delaware and relo­cated to But­ler in 1968, after the Army Corp of Engi­neers flooded the farm land in Delaware to cre­ate Alum Creek. She was an inte­gral part of the fam­ily farm help­ing with the day to day chores, and even help­ing with the field work, dri­ving the trac­tor. Wanda and Bernard were among the ear­li­est mem­bers of the Clear Fork Alliance Church. She cher­ished her fam­ily, never too busy to help her hus­band and sons.

Wanda is sur­vived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Darla Free­man of But­ler, Brent and Deb­bie Free­man of Recife, Brazil, and Scott and Mar­garet Free­man of Lucas; 38 grand­chil­dren; 49 great-grandchildren; and a sis­ter, Con­nie Stooks­bury of Broadway.

In addi­tion to her hus­band, she was pre­ceded in death by an infant great-grandson, Lee Jor­dan Free­man in 2002; two broth­ers, Bob and Bud Parmer; and two sis­ters, Clara Gale and Bet­tie Webb.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mon­day in the Bel­lville Sny­der Funeral Home. The funeral ser­vice will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tues­day in Clear Fork Alliance Church, 1008 Ohio 97, Bel­lville. The Rev. Dr. Michael Stine will offi­ci­ate. Bur­ial will fol­low in North Lib­erty Cemetery.

Memo­r­ial con­tri­bu­tions to Green Olive Tree Min­istries or Leben­shaus Dis­ci­ple­ship Cen­ter may be made at the funeral home and church.
