Betty L. Suttles

Betty L. Sut­tles, 90, of West 48th Street, Ashtab­ula, died Sun­day (Feb. 12, 2012) at the Ashtab­ula County Nurs­ing Home in Kingsville.

She was born July 19, 1921 in Altoona, Pa., the daugh­ter of Ray­mond and Ella (Line) Cal­houn and has lived in the Ashtab­ula area most of her life. She was a reg­is­tered nurse at the Ashtab­ula Clinic until her retire­ment. She was a mem­ber of the Faith Lutheran Church of Ashtab­ula; she was a past pres­i­dent twice of the Women’s Club; active in the senior cen­ter; a mem­ber of the Retired Nurses Asso­ci­a­tion; she worked at the polls for Ashtab­ula Elec­tion Board and she was a Grey Lady at the hos­pi­tal. She enjoyed and loved all the Cleve­land sports teams; she loved play­ing bridge and was in four bridge clubs; she enjoyed play­ing golf and loved watch­ing her grand­chil­dren and great-grandchildren in all their sports and activities.

Sur­viv­ing her are four daugh­ters, Susan (Richard) Lil­lie of Kingsville, Linda (Robert) Gaffey of Delaware, Mar­cia (Don R.) Palm of North Kingsville and Carol (Randy) McConnell of Ashtab­ula; six grand­chil­dren, Rex Lil­lie, Kim­berly Krei­der, Amiee Watts, Donny Palm, Miranda McConnell and Brett McConnell; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents and by her ex-husband, Dr. Charles M. Suttles.

Call­ing hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednes­day, Feb. 15, at the funeral home. The funeral ser­vice will be at 1 p.m. Thurs­day, Feb. 16, at the Ashtab­ula Home of Flem­ing & Bill­man Funeral Direc­tors, 526 West Prospect Road, Ashtab­ula, with the Rev. Karen Tews of the Faith Lutheran Church offi­ci­at­ing. Entomb­ment will be in Greelawn Mem­ory Gar­dens Mau­soleum in North Kingsville.

Memo­r­ial con­tri­bu­tions can be made to Hos­pice of the West­ern Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtab­ula, or to the donor’s favorite charity.

The fam­ily would like to thank the staff of E Wing at the Ashtab­ula County Nurs­ing Home and to Hos­pice of the West­ern Reserve for the won­der­ful care they gave their mother and grand­mother while she was there.
