Betty L. Suttles
Betty L. Suttles, 90, of West 48th Street, Ashtabula, died Sunday (Feb. 12, 2012) at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in Kingsville.
She was born July 19, 1921 in Altoona, Pa., the daughter of Raymond and Ella (Line) Calhoun and has lived in the Ashtabula area most of her life. She was a registered nurse at the Ashtabula Clinic until her retirement. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Ashtabula; she was a past president twice of the Women’s Club; active in the senior center; a member of the Retired Nurses Association; she worked at the polls for Ashtabula Election Board and she was a Grey Lady at the hospital. She enjoyed and loved all the Cleveland sports teams; she loved playing bridge and was in four bridge clubs; she enjoyed playing golf and loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their sports and activities.
Surviving her are four daughters, Susan (Richard) Lillie of Kingsville, Linda (Robert) Gaffey of Delaware, Marcia (Don R.) Palm of North Kingsville and Carol (Randy) McConnell of Ashtabula; six grandchildren, Rex Lillie, Kimberly Kreider, Amiee Watts, Donny Palm, Miranda McConnell and Brett McConnell; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her ex-husband, Dr. Charles M. Suttles.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Karen Tews of the Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment will be in Greelawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum in North Kingsville.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
The family would like to thank the staff of E Wing at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home and to Hospice of the Western Reserve for the wonderful care they gave their mother and grandmother while she was there.
