Donald Roscoe Rengert

Don­ald Roscoe Rengert, 85, of Waldo died on Mon­day (Feb. 13, 2012) at his home sur­rounded by his lov­ing family.

He was born on June 11, 1926, in Waldo to the late Roscoe and Grace (Augen­stein) Rengert. Don­ald attended Hard­ing High School until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his coun­try hon­or­ably dur­ing World War II, in the south Pacific as a Gun­ners Mate 3rd class on the USS SanS­aba. On June 7, 1946 in Ash­land, Ky., Don­ald mar­ried the for­mer Ruth C. Wright and she sur­vives in Waldo. After being hon­or­ably dis­charged from the U.S. Navy, Don­ald began his work­ing career for the Bauldaulf Builders, where he found his niche as a car­pen­ter. Don­ald went on to own, Rengert Lum­ber and Builders Sup­ply in Waldo. He also served as a car­pen­ter super­in­ten­dent on numer­ous work sites for Kokos­ing, Baker Con­struc­tion, Ser­vice Prod­ucts and Mar­ion Con­tract­ing. Don­ald was a mem­ber of the United Broth­er­hood of Car­pen­ters and Join­ers of Amer­ica, Local Union 1241 Colum­bus. Don­ald was a for­mer real estate agent for Jim Spires Realty and Williams Cen­tury 21. He was a mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Legion Post 605 in Waldo. Don­ald and his wife are for­mer mem­bers of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo and attended the Cor­ner­stone Alliance Church in Mar­ion. He was always keep­ing busy doing some­thing but most of all enjoyed assist­ing his fam­ily mem­bers with their projects.

In addi­tion to his wife, Don­ald is sur­vived by four chil­dren, Dane (Hen­ri­etta) Rengert of Waldo, Becky (Jim) Bishop of Waldo, David (Raina) Rengert of Mans­field and Beth (John) Hig­gins of Hilliard; eight grand­chil­dren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thurs­day, Feb. 16, at Gompf Funeral Home in Card­ing­ton. The funeral ser­vice will be held at 1:30 p.m. Fri­day, Feb. 17, at the Cor­ner­stone Alliance Church in Mar­ion and the Rev. Tim­o­thy Miller will offi­ci­ate. Bur­ial will fol­low in the Waldo Ceme­tery where full mil­i­tary hon­ors will be observed.
