Donald Roscoe Rengert
Donald Roscoe Rengert, 85, of Waldo died on Monday (Feb. 13, 2012) at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 11, 1926, in Waldo to the late Roscoe and Grace (Augenstein) Rengert. Donald attended Harding High School until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country honorably during World War II, in the south Pacific as a Gunners Mate 3rd class on the USS SanSaba. On June 7, 1946 in Ashland, Ky., Donald married the former Ruth C. Wright and she survives in Waldo. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Donald began his working career for the Bauldaulf Builders, where he found his niche as a carpenter. Donald went on to own, Rengert Lumber and Builders Supply in Waldo. He also served as a carpenter superintendent on numerous work sites for Kokosing, Baker Construction, Service Products and Marion Contracting. Donald was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local Union 1241 Columbus. Donald was a former real estate agent for Jim Spires Realty and Williams Century 21. He was a member of the American Legion Post 605 in Waldo. Donald and his wife are former members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo and attended the Cornerstone Alliance Church in Marion. He was always keeping busy doing something but most of all enjoyed assisting his family members with their projects.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by four children, Dane (Henrietta) Rengert of Waldo, Becky (Jim) Bishop of Waldo, David (Raina) Rengert of Mansfield and Beth (John) Higgins of Hilliard; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the Cornerstone Alliance Church in Marion and the Rev. Timothy Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Waldo Cemetery where full military honors will be observed.
