Dorothy Sommers, 90, of Urbana, died on Sunday (Feb. 12, 2012).
Mrs. Sommers was born in Delaware on June 7, 1921, and graduated from Brown High School and The Ohio State University, School of Home Economics in the College of Agriculture.
She is survived by her three children and their families, Jack and Mary Sommers of Urbana, Dixie Sommers of Alexandria, Va., and Cathy and Mike Pullins of Cable; grandchildren, John and Diane Sommers of Pleasantville, Matt Pullins of Lakewood, Sarah Pullins of Chicago and Kent Pullins of Cincinnati; great-granddaughters, Lauren and Melissa Sommers of Pleasantville; brother and sister-in-law ‚Tom and Phyllis Dix of Moscow, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sharon Dix of Kenton; and sister, Barbara Dix of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Sommers Jr.; grandson, Mark Sommers; parents, George and Grace Evans Dix; stepmother, Ruth Dix; sister, Elsie Dix Snook; and brothers, Robert Dix and Chuck Dix.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Vernon Funeral Home, 235 Miami St., Urbana. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Westville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Urbana.
