Geneva Smith

Geneva Smith, 80, passed away unex­pect­edly Thurs­day (Feb. 2, 2012) at her home in Delaware.

She was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Delaware, to the late Wal­ter and Sophia Evans. She retired from the Scioto Vil­lage School for Girls. Geneva was a long-time res­i­dent of Delaware, where many of her extended fam­ily mem­bers still reside. In par­tic­u­lar, she was very close to the Wil­son fam­ily and enjoyed spend­ing much of her time with them.

She is sur­vived by her daughter-in-law, Norma Har­ris, of Delaware; grand­chil­dren, Jen­nifer Evans of Colum­bus, Veron­ica (Bradley) Gun­nett of Mar­ion and Rebecca Evans of West­er­ville. Affec­tion­ately known as “Grandma DB,” she is also sur­vived by great-grandchildren Robert and Dominique Bac­cus, Aarin and Anthony Hitchens, San Juan and Lucia Avina, and Dezarae Gun­nett. She was also the great-great-grandmother of Jar­reau Hitchens and Jazz­ianna Baccus.

In addi­tion to her par­ents, Geneva was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Grover “Smitty” Smith; as well as her son, Wal­ter R. Evans.

The fam­ily will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednes­day, Feb. 8, 2012, at Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, with a memo­r­ial ser­vice fol­low­ing imme­di­ately there­after, offi­ci­ated by Dea­con Franklin D. Moore of the Sec­ond Bap­tist Church. Pri­vate inter­ment will take place at a later date.
