Geneva Smith
Geneva Smith, 80, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (Feb. 2, 2012) at her home in Delaware.
She was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Delaware, to the late Walter and Sophia Evans. She retired from the Scioto Village School for Girls. Geneva was a long-time resident of Delaware, where many of her extended family members still reside. In particular, she was very close to the Wilson family and enjoyed spending much of her time with them.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Norma Harris, of Delaware; grandchildren, Jennifer Evans of Columbus, Veronica (Bradley) Gunnett of Marion and Rebecca Evans of Westerville. Affectionately known as “Grandma DB,” she is also survived by great-grandchildren Robert and Dominique Baccus, Aarin and Anthony Hitchens, San Juan and Lucia Avina, and Dezarae Gunnett. She was also the great-great-grandmother of Jarreau Hitchens and Jazzianna Baccus.
In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Grover “Smitty” Smith; as well as her son, Walter R. Evans.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, with a memorial service following immediately thereafter, officiated by Deacon Franklin D. Moore of the Second Baptist Church. Private interment will take place at a later date.
