Russell L. McCoy

Rus­sell L. McCoy, 74, West­er­ville, passed away Sat­ur­day (Feb. 11, 2012) sur­rounded by his lov­ing fam­ily, after a coura­geous bat­tle fol­low­ing surgery.

Russ was a Navy vet­eran, grad­u­ate of the Ohio State Uni­ver­sity, obtained his law degree and was an Ohio State High­way Patrol­man and Cap­tain of the Wor­thing­ton Police Reserve. He was employed by Buck­eye Union Insur­ance Co, UAS, Con­ti­nen­tal Insur­ance Co. and retired from CAN Insur­ance Co. He was a 32nd degree Mason; mem­ber of Hiram Lodge F&A.M., Delaware; Aladdin Shriners of Colum­bus; Grand Chap­ter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; Grand Coun­cil Royal & Select Masons of Ohio; Knights Tem­plar of Mar­ion; Ancient Accepted Scot­tish Rite; and Order of East­ern Star. He served as past pres­i­dent of the Colum­bus Claims Asso­ci­a­tion, was a prior mem­ber of Insur­ance Women of Colum­bus, Ohio-NAIW and was a mem­ber of the NRA. Russ was an avid out­doors­man, loved hunt­ing, fish­ing and golf. He was very devoted to his fam­ily and loyal com­pan­ion Chase.

He is sur­vived by his lov­ing, devoted wife of 25 years, Anne McCoy; daugh­ters, Debra (George) Osborne of Card­ing­ton and Sharon (Rob) Ray of Ostran­der; sons, Al (Tammy) McCoy of Whites­boro, N.Y., and Scott (Lori) McCoy of Galena; grand­chil­dren, Brooke Pierce, Mitch Osborne, Mea­gan McCoy, Stephanie McCoy, Case McCoy, Lon­dyn McCoy, Kae­lyn McCoy and Gabe Ray; three great-grandchildren; and broth­ers, Mervin (Karen) McCoy of Zanesville, Larry (Donna) McCoy of Zanesville, Jer­ald McCoy of Reynolds­burg and Her­ald (Kat­rina) McCoy of California.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednes­day and 10 to 11 a.m. Thurs­day at the Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St., West­er­ville, where a ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs­day with the Rev. Jen­nifer Jarvis offi­ci­at­ing. A Masonic Ser­vice will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
