Russell L. McCoy
Russell L. McCoy, 74, Westerville, passed away Saturday (Feb. 11, 2012) surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle following surgery.
Russ was a Navy veteran, graduate of the Ohio State University, obtained his law degree and was an Ohio State Highway Patrolman and Captain of the Worthington Police Reserve. He was employed by Buckeye Union Insurance Co, UAS, Continental Insurance Co. and retired from CAN Insurance Co. He was a 32nd degree Mason; member of Hiram Lodge F&A.M., Delaware; Aladdin Shriners of Columbus; Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio; Knights Templar of Marion; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and Order of Eastern Star. He served as past president of the Columbus Claims Association, was a prior member of Insurance Women of Columbus, Ohio-NAIW and was a member of the NRA. Russ was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing and golf. He was very devoted to his family and loyal companion Chase.
He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 25 years, Anne McCoy; daughters, Debra (George) Osborne of Cardington and Sharon (Rob) Ray of Ostrander; sons, Al (Tammy) McCoy of Whitesboro, N.Y., and Scott (Lori) McCoy of Galena; grandchildren, Brooke Pierce, Mitch Osborne, Meagan McCoy, Stephanie McCoy, Case McCoy, Londyn McCoy, Kaelyn McCoy and Gabe Ray; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Mervin (Karen) McCoy of Zanesville, Larry (Donna) McCoy of Zanesville, Jerald McCoy of Reynoldsburg and Herald (Katrina) McCoy of California.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St., Westerville, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Jennifer Jarvis officiating. A Masonic Service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
