Elizabeth Ann Wheeler

Eliz­a­beth Ann Wheeler, a Delaware res­i­dent for 86 years, died on Fri­day (March 23, 2012) at her daughter’s home fol­low­ing a brief ill­ness being treated with Hos­pice services.

She was born March 12, 1917, to Fred L. Gen­th­ner Sr. and Muriel C. Matthews Gen­th­ner. Eliz­a­beth was a grad­u­ate of Willis High School, owner of the Verkamp Bot­tled Gas and a mem­ber of Grace Brethren Church. She served as an offi­cer for the Class of 1935’s reunion com­mit­tee, trea­surer for Beta Sigma Phi Soror­ity, sec­re­tary for George Lewis Behrens Order of the East­ern Star, trea­surer for the Grady Vol­un­teer Coun­cil and Pre­sid­ing Judge for the Delaware County Board of Elec­tions — all for many years. Before mov­ing from Delaware in 2003 to live with her daugh­ter, Eliz­a­beth vol­un­teered at Grady Memo­r­ial Hos­pi­tal for more than 14,000 hours.

She is sur­vived by her daugh­ter and son-in-law Martha E.K. (Jonathan) Beltz; cousin, Ruth Throne of Mis­souri; and a nephew, Lee F. Gen­th­ner of California.

She was pre­ceded in death by a brother, Fred L. Gen­th­ner Jr.; and her hus­band, Robert R. Wheeler.

Pri­vate grave­side ser­vices will be held at Oak Grove Ceme­tery with her cre­mains buried between her parents.
