Eugene L. Downing

Eugene L. Down­ing, 76, of Delaware, passed away Sat­ur­day (March 24, 2012) at his residence.

He was born July 30, 1935 in Mid­dle­ton, Mich, to Chancey and Myr­tle Cham­ber­lain Down­ing. He served in the Army National Guard and retired from Dorix Allas. He enjoyed wood­work­ing, hunt­ing and fish­ing, and was for­mer pres­i­dent of the St. John, Michi­gan Jaycees and a mem­ber of the National Rifle Association.

He is sur­vived by two daugh­ters, Pamela Down­ing (Den­nis Matko) of Colum­bus and Patri­cia (Dale Kohler) Down­ing of Ostran­der; two sons, David (Ruth) Down­ing and Scott (Zena Farah) Down­ing, all of Del­ware; two broth­ers, Kendall (Lil­lian) and Jack (June) Down­ing of Michi­gan; and a sis­ter, Glenna (Ed) Miller, all of Michi­gan; 10 grand­chil­dren and two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Andy Gager; and sister-in-law, Mar­ion Goodrich of Michigan.

He was pre­ceded in death by his wife, Donna; a brother, Eldon; and sis­ters, Bar­bara Gager and Glo­ria Downey.

The fam­ily will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Fri­day, March 30, at the Lib­erty United Methodist Church, 1701 U.S. 23 in Delaware, where there will be an addi­tional hour of vis­i­ta­tion from noon until ser­vice time at 1 p.m. Sat­ur­day. The church will then host a lun­cheon after the service.

In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily requests dona­tions be made to Home­reach Hos­pice, 561 W. Cen­tral Ave., Delaware OH 43015 or to the Lib­erty United Methodist Church, 1701 Colum­bus Pike, Delaware, OH 43015.
