Harold D. Pickens

Harold D. Pick­ens, 80, of Albion, Pa., died Wednes­day (March 28, 2012) at the Sol­diers and Sailors Home in Erie, Pa.

He was born in Mar­ion on April 16, 1931, a son of the late Hacel and Mary E. Holt Pick­ens. Harold grad­u­ated from Frank B. Willis High School, Delaware, in 1949. He worked on the fam­ily farm and at var­i­ous jobs until he entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 23, 1953. Harold stayed in the Army more than 21 years, until he retired on Jan. 1, 1975, as a Sgt. First Class. He was then employed by the U.S. Post Office in Albion in 1975 as a sub­sti­tute rural mail car­rier, until he became a per­ma­nent car­rier, retir­ing in June 1993. He enjoyed hunt­ing, fish­ing, gar­den­ing and pic­nics with his fam­ily at his pond.

He is sur­vived by two sons, Duane L. Pick­ens of Erie and Neil S. (Tammy) Pick­ens of West Spring­field; a daugh­ter, Can­dace M. Bar­toe of Albion; five grand­chil­dren, Sean, Bren­dan, Michaela, Jes­sica and Sara; a brother, Richard; four sis­ters, Mar­i­lyn, Mar­cella, Ruby and Linda, all liv­ing in Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Harold was pre­ceded in death by his ex-wife, Wilma A. Pick­ens; and four broth­ers, Clif­ford, Ken­neth, Del­mar and Albert.

Funeral arrange­ments are entrusted to the Bur­ton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard. There will be no call­ing hours and inter­ment will be at the con­ve­nience of the family.
