James W. Stone

James W. Stone, 82, of Pleas­ant City passed away Sat­ur­day (Feb. 25, 2012) at SEORMC.

He was born May 31, 1929 in Delaware County and was the son of the late Luther and Dorothy H. (Tripp) Stone. Mr. Stone grad­u­ated from Orange High School in Delaware County and attended Otter­bein, Ohio State and Bliss Busi­ness School as well as exten­sive train­ing in heavy truck and diesel equip­ment mechan­ics. He was a heavy truck mechanic until he retired. He was an Army vet­eran hav­ing served dur­ing the Korean War and was a mem­ber of Main Avenue United Methodist Church. His hob­bies included gar­den­ing and he espe­cially liked rais­ing mel­ons and toma­toes. Pho­tog­ra­phy was also a pas­sion and he enjoyed work­ing in his dark room in his home. As a his­tory buff, the Civil War was his favorite.

He is sur­vived by his wife, O. Jane (Lydick) Stone whom he mar­ried July 31, 1951; three sons, Patrick Lee Stone of Colum­bus, David Luther Stone of Col­orado Springs and Brian Eugene Stone of Beau­fort, S.C.; 13 grand­chil­dren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Stone of Delaware; one step­sis­ter, Nancy (Larry) Mose­ley of Florida; and nieces and nephews.

In addi­tion to his par­ents he was pre­ceded in death by a son, James Michael Stone; and three sis­ters, Ruth Gandy of Charleston, W.Va., Mar­jorie Marsh of West­er­ville and Joanne Car­dosi of Hilliard.

A memo­r­ial ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Fri­day at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, with the Rev. Nancy Par­sons offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will be in Green­wood Ceme­tery with mil­i­tary ser­vices con­ducted by the Guernsey County Vet­er­ans Council.
