James W. Stone
James W. Stone, 82, of Pleasant City passed away Saturday (Feb. 25, 2012) at SEORMC.
He was born May 31, 1929 in Delaware County and was the son of the late Luther and Dorothy H. (Tripp) Stone. Mr. Stone graduated from Orange High School in Delaware County and attended Otterbein, Ohio State and Bliss Business School as well as extensive training in heavy truck and diesel equipment mechanics. He was a heavy truck mechanic until he retired. He was an Army veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of Main Avenue United Methodist Church. His hobbies included gardening and he especially liked raising melons and tomatoes. Photography was also a passion and he enjoyed working in his dark room in his home. As a history buff, the Civil War was his favorite.
He is survived by his wife, O. Jane (Lydick) Stone whom he married July 31, 1951; three sons, Patrick Lee Stone of Columbus, David Luther Stone of Colorado Springs and Brian Eugene Stone of Beaufort, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Stone of Delaware; one stepsister, Nancy (Larry) Moseley of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Stone; and three sisters, Ruth Gandy of Charleston, W.Va., Marjorie Marsh of Westerville and Joanne Cardosi of Hilliard.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, with the Rev. Nancy Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
