William H. ‘Bill’ Rector

William H. “Bill” Rec­tor, 81, of Dublin and Delaware County, passed away Sun­day (March 25, 2012) at Kobacker House.

Born to the late Ruth H. and William H. Rec­tor, Sr., he grew up in Colum­bus and grad­u­ated from Cen­tral High School in 1948. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly after grad­u­a­tion and was sta­tioned in San Diego. After his dis­charge, Bill moved back to Colum­bus and began his career with Big Bear Stores. While there, he met his lov­ing wife Vera and they were mar­ried for 57 years. He retired from Big Bear early and in 1989 started his own suc­cess­ful man­u­fac­tures rep busi­ness, which he loved and never truly retired. Bill was active in the com­mu­nity and Cen­tral Col­lege Pres­by­ter­ian Church where he served as a trustee, elder and on the build­ing com­mit­tee. He was a mem­ber of New Eng­land Lodge 4, F&AM, a 32nd Degree Mason-Valley of Colum­bus and an active mem­ber of Aladdin Tem­ple Shrine where he served in the Hos­pi­tal­ity Unit. He was past pres­i­dent of the Colum­bus House­wares Club, advi­sor to the 4-H Club in Delaware County and a vol­un­teer for the Amer­i­can Red Cross and the Cen­tral Col­lege Food Bank. Bill was an avid golfer — hav­ing scored a hole-in-one at Safari Golf Club, a fish­er­man and enjoyed base­ball, soft­ball, foot­ball and the Ohio State Buck­eyes. He was also an avid fan of the Lit­tle Brown Jug and was a for­mer mem­ber of Muir­field Coun­try Club.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Vera; son, Fred Rec­tor; daugh­ter and son-in-law, Tami and Bill Ser­gent; grand­son, Tim Ser­gent; best friend, Clarence Huskey; and so many friends and colleagues.

Fam­ily will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm. Wednes­day at the Ruther­ford Funeral Home at Pow­ell, 450 W. Olen­tangy St., Pow­ell, with a Masonic Ser­vice at 7:30 p.m. (The funeral home is located on West Olen­tangy Street/Powell Road/Ohio 750, ¼ mile east of Sawmill Park­way.) Funeral ser­vices will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Thurs­day, March 29, with The Rev.Dr. Richard Ellsworth offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will fol­low the ser­vice at King­wood Memo­r­ial Park, Lewis Cen­ter. The fam­ily sends a spe­cial thanks to the staff at Kobacker House.
