Fruit, veggie challenge

From left, Willis Intermediate Principal Heidi Kegley gives a package of apple slices to sixth-grader Shyanne Burns as part of the school’s fruit and vegetable challenge. The event, in which students this week will receive free samples of fruits and veggies, is sponsored with funding from the Friends for Life grant through the Delaware General Health District. Students are being encouraged to increase their fruit and vegetable intake while tracking consumption in their classrooms. On Friday, the classroom with the highest increase of fruits and vegetables consumed will win a classroom party with fruit smoothies and fruit kabobs. (Gazette | Melissa Mackey)
