Harry Thomas Bartow

Harry Thomas Bar­tow, 82, of Delaware passed away unex­pect­edly early Wednes­day morn­ing (April 25, 2012) in the emer­gency room at Grady Memo­r­ial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Chicago to Clyde Orvell and Eliz­a­beth Mary (Schueller) Bar­tow. He was a grad­u­ate of the Air Force Intel­li­gence School and served his coun­try dur­ing the Korean War in the Air Force. He has been a Delaware res­i­dent for 37 years com­ing from Find­lay and Per­rys­burg. He worked for Ernst and Ernst in Per­rys­burg, Nachurs Plant Food in Mar­ion and Gru­mann Flex­able in Delaware. He was a mem­ber of the Lib­erty Pres­by­ter­ian Church and a for­mer mem­ber of the Delaware Elks Lodge 76. He enjoyed play­ing cards every Tues­day at the Coun­cil for Older Adults and he loved the Lit­tle Brown Jug horse races. He was a great cook and for many years has pre­pared all the food at Garth’s Auc­tions Inc.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 54 years, Louise DeCaro; sons, Tom Bar­tow of Lit­tle­ton, Colo., and Bryan Bar­tow of Arvada, Colo.; daugh­ter, Karen Mavis of Delaware; three grand­chil­dren, Bren­dan and Derek Mavis and Maia Louise Long; two step­grand­chil­dren, Sean and Olivia Mavis; brother, David Clyde Bar­tow of Sun Prairie, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Sharel Bar­tow of Sun City, Ariz., and Lea Bar­tow of Muc­won­ago, Wis.; good friends, Bradley and Nicki Mavis of Delaware; and numer­ous nieces and nephews.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents; a sis­ter, Bet­tie Dwinell; and broth­ers, Robert Lee and John Bartow.

Funeral ser­vices will be held at 10 a.m. Sat­ur­day, April 28, at the Rod­man Neeper Funeral Home, 1510 W. William St. at Val­ley­side Drive, Delaware. The fam­ily will receive friends one hour prior to the ser­vices. Bur­ial will fol­low in Oak Grove Ceme­tery where mem­bers of the U.S. Air Force will pro­vide mil­i­tary honors.
