William K. Vaughan

William K. Vaughan, for­merly of Colum­bus and Pow­ell passed away at the VA Hos­pice Facil­ity in St. Peters­burg, Fla., on Tues­day (March 27, 2012) at the age of 89.

For more than 30 years, begin­ning in 1956, Bill worked as a civil and pro­fes­sional engi­neer in the Greater Colum­bus and Delaware com­mu­ni­ties, con­tribut­ing to the design and con­struc­tion of hun­dreds of pub­lic and pri­vate struc­tures and infra­struc­ture projects. A grad­u­ate of the U.S. Mil­i­tary Acad­emy, West Point, Class of 1945, he was a Pearl Har­bor sur­vivor. Bill and his wife of 54 years, Laura Vaughan, who was an ele­men­tary school teacher in Upper Arling­ton for more than 20 years, moved to St. Peters­burg in 1991. Laura died in 1999.

He is sur­vived by his son, William Vaughan Jr.; daughter-in-law, Joan; and three grandchildren.

In mem­ory of Bill, the fam­ily will hold a ser­vice in the after­noon of Sat­ur­day, June 23, at the Chapel of Sil­ver Bay, N.Y., and place his ashes at Sil­ver Bay Memo­r­ial Gar­dens near the shores of Lake George. For more than 20 years, Bill and his fam­ily enjoyed a sum­mer retreat at Sil­ver Bay and his wishes will be hon­ored when his ashes are spread at this final rest­ing place with his beloved Laura.
