William K. Vaughan
William K. Vaughan, formerly of Columbus and Powell passed away at the VA Hospice Facility in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Tuesday (March 27, 2012) at the age of 89.
For more than 30 years, beginning in 1956, Bill worked as a civil and professional engineer in the Greater Columbus and Delaware communities, contributing to the design and construction of hundreds of public and private structures and infrastructure projects. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, Class of 1945, he was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Bill and his wife of 54 years, Laura Vaughan, who was an elementary school teacher in Upper Arlington for more than 20 years, moved to St. Petersburg in 1991. Laura died in 1999.
He is survived by his son, William Vaughan Jr.; daughter-in-law, Joan; and three grandchildren.
In memory of Bill, the family will hold a service in the afternoon of Saturday, June 23, at the Chapel of Silver Bay, N.Y., and place his ashes at Silver Bay Memorial Gardens near the shores of Lake George. For more than 20 years, Bill and his family enjoyed a summer retreat at Silver Bay and his wishes will be honored when his ashes are spread at this final resting place with his beloved Laura.
