Alexis Paige “Lexi” McDaniel

Alexis Paige “Lexi” McDaniel, 4-year-old daugh­ter of Paul Dou­glas and Angela D. Orris McDaniel II of North Lewis­burg, died Mon­day (April 30, 2012) at Nation­wide Children’s Hos­pi­tal in Colum­bus from com­pli­ca­tions related to Spinal Mus­cu­lar Atro­phy (SMA).

Lexi was born May 20, 2007, in Marysville. A beau­ti­ful lit­tle girl, Lexi bright­ened the lives of every­one who knew her and loved being sur­rounded by her fam­ily and friends. She enjoyed big pink dresses and Dora the Explorer, the family’s pet snake and pet­ting horses, but was not a fan of Bar­bie or fairies and pet­ting cows and would be quick to alert you of her dis­plea­sure. She pos­sessed a coura­geous spirit and will be missed beyond mea­sure. The fam­ily takes com­fort in know­ing that Lexi shared the gift of life as an organ donor through Life­line of Ohio.

Along with her par­ents, she is sur­vived by three broth­ers, Jesse, 14, Mar­cus, 8, and Colin, 7; mater­nal grand­fa­ther, David Orris of Delaware; mater­nal grand­par­ents, Tonda and Mike Hoff­man of Marysville; pater­nal grand­mother, Con­nie Ruther­ford of Lewis Cen­ter; pater­nal great-grandmother, Ruth Ruther­ford of Delaware; two uncles, Christo­pher Ser­gent of Delaware and Joshua Ser­gent of Sun­bury; an aunt, Saman­tha (Domonic) Mar­chio of Sun­bury; two stepun­cles, Brian Ruther­ford and Shawn Ruther­ford, each of Delaware; god­mother, Mareda Brewer of North Lewis­burg; god­fa­ther, Jerry Moran of Card­ing­ton; and care­givers, Ann Carnes of Belle­fontaine and Sarah Lea­sure of Marysville.

She was pre­ceded in death by a mater­nal grand­mother, Mar­sha Drumm Orris, and pater­nal grand­fa­ther, Dick Rutherford.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Fri­day, May 4, at Man­na­smith Funeral Home, Marysville, where the funeral ser­vice will begin at 7 p.m. Paul Reynolds will offi­ci­ate and bur­ial will take place at a later date at Oak­dale Cemetery.
