Mary Louise (Winters) Houk, 88, peacefully passed on Tuesday (May 17, 2011) at her residence in Marion with her loving family at her side.
Mary was a longtime resident of Morral and member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Delaware to Peter and Sylvia (Simpson) Winters. Her husband, Leo, preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1992 after 51 years of marriage. A life-long homemaker, wife and devoted mother of eight children, Mary also spent time employed in the J.C. Penney shoe department. Mary is endearingly remembered for her love and joy of family, boating, camping, fishing and RV traveling, and visiting family out of state with her husband. She had a passionate gift of gardening and fond pleasure in feeding wild birds.
Mary is survived by three sons, Jerry (Valerie) of Wisconsin, Mike (Sharon) of Kansas and Bob (Lori) of Colorado; five daughters, Phyllis Kreis of Oklahoma, Jan Bowers of Georgia, Kathleen (Steven) Thiel of Prospect, Deborah (Robert) Schmidt of Waldo and Linda (Ray) Russell of Richwood. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her family has always been the light of her life and she will be dearly missed.
Calling hours will be observed from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Boyd-Born Funeral Home. The Rev. Keith Irey will officiate at the funeral service honoring her life at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, in the Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church.
The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Marion General Home Health or Marion General Hospital Hospice.
