Elmer Joseph “Joe” Bradbury
Elmer Joseph “Joe” Bradbury, 94, passed away Sunday (May 27, 2012) at Willow Brook Care Center in Delaware.
Born in Kokomo, Ind., to the late Elmer Ray and Mabel Bradbury, Joe was a retired principal research scientist with Battelle Memorial Institute where he worked in the development of the process of making synthetic alcohol used in the manufacturing of biodegradable synthetic detergents and polymer plastics. He received his B.S. Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and attained his Masters in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University. Joe volunteered at both Grady Memorial Hospital and the Historical Society of Delaware and loved working in the paint department at the Delaware Wal-Mart. He was a former member of Fourth Avenue Christian Church and was a present member of Northwest Christian Church where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, men’s Bible study teacher and was a former youth leader. He enjoyed photography, gardening, bowling, woodworking and being with his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his children, Nancy (Robert) Taylor of Powell, Sandra E. Phillips of Powell, Robert A. (Karen) Bradbury of Tulsa, Okla., and Brenda (Tim) Huffer of Odessa, Fla.; sister, Rosemarie Ashmore of Austin, Texas; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his very, very special friend and a Blessing to Dad, Gladys Hines of Delaware and her caring family.
He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Marie Bradbury; his first wife, Dorothy Josephine Bradbury; his second wife, Elsie Bradbury; his two infant children, Jo-Ann and Lewis Raye Bradbury; and his sister, Patricia Watson.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 W. Olentangy St., Powell. Family will also receive friends before the funeral service from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, and the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Wheeler, officiating.
