Elmer Joseph “Joe” Bradbury

Elmer Joseph “Joe” Brad­bury, 94, passed away Sun­day (May 27, 2012) at Wil­low Brook Care Cen­ter in Delaware.

Born in Kokomo, Ind., to the late Elmer Ray and Mabel Brad­bury, Joe was a retired prin­ci­pal research sci­en­tist with Bat­telle Memo­r­ial Insti­tute where he worked in the devel­op­ment of the process of mak­ing syn­thetic alco­hol used in the man­u­fac­tur­ing of biodegrad­able syn­thetic deter­gents and poly­mer plas­tics. He received his B.S. Chem­i­cal Engi­neer­ing from Pur­due Uni­ver­sity and attained his Mas­ters in Chem­i­cal Engi­neer­ing from The Ohio State Uni­ver­sity. Joe vol­un­teered at both Grady Memo­r­ial Hos­pi­tal and the His­tor­i­cal Soci­ety of Delaware and loved work­ing in the paint depart­ment at the Delaware Wal-Mart. He was a for­mer mem­ber of Fourth Avenue Chris­t­ian Church and was a present mem­ber of North­west Chris­t­ian Church where he served as an elder, Sun­day school teacher, men’s Bible study teacher and was a for­mer youth leader. He enjoyed pho­tog­ra­phy, gar­den­ing, bowl­ing, wood­work­ing and being with his grandchildren.

Joe is sur­vived by his chil­dren, Nancy (Robert) Tay­lor of Pow­ell, San­dra E. Phillips of Pow­ell, Robert A. (Karen) Brad­bury of Tulsa, Okla., and Brenda (Tim) Huf­fer of Odessa, Fla.; sis­ter, Rose­marie Ash­more of Austin, Texas; a host of grand­chil­dren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his very, very spe­cial friend and a Bless­ing to Dad, Gladys Hines of Delaware and her car­ing family.

He was also pre­ceded in death by his step­mother, Marie Brad­bury; his first wife, Dorothy Josephine Brad­bury; his sec­ond wife, Elsie Brad­bury; his two infant chil­dren, Jo-Ann and Lewis Raye Brad­bury; and his sis­ter, Patri­cia Watson.

Fam­ily will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ruther­ford Funeral Home at Pow­ell, 450 W. Olen­tangy St., Pow­ell. Fam­ily will also receive friends before the funeral ser­vice from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thurs­day, and the funeral ser­vice will fol­low at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jef­frey A. Wheeler, offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will fol­low at King­wood Memo­r­ial Park, Lewis Cen­ter. Send con­do­lences for the fam­ily to rutherfordfuneralhomes.com.
