A local singer-songwriter is performing with her band Saturday at the Delaware County Fair, opening for a national country rock act.

Erica Blinn, 24, performs from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in front of the racetrack grandstand as an opener for McGuffey Lane who plays from 7 to 9 p.m.

“I’ve known John Schwab (of McGuffey Lane) for a long time,” Blinn said. “He’s been very helpful and supportive of me, and asked me to play. It’s nice that he’s there on my side.”

Blinn first performed with The Rip City Rockers, which included sisters Caitie Thompson and Leslie Thompson-Alexander as well as Mike Yoakum. The group performed in the first-ever Battle of the Bands, put on every year by the Delaware Area Career Center students.

After The Rip City Rockers disbanded, Blinn started the blues rock band Double Barrel, a group that played many shows in Delaware.

Although Blinn attended Worthington Schools, she gives back a lot to the Delaware community, where her father has lived for several years.

Last year, Blinn put on a benefit show in support of Delaware County Habitat for Humanity that packed Gabby’s Place on Ohio 315. All proceeds from the show went toward replacing about $3,000 worth of tools that were stolen from a Habitat work site.

Prior to the fair concert, Blinn will kick off another such fundraiser at 1 p.m. Saturday to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association at Hoggy’s, 13 W. William St., Delaware.

Blinn’s self-titled debut album — on Grandview Heights-based Curry House Records — features her Raleigh, N.C. band, Terry Anderson and The OAK Team and is due out Oct. 18, but she hopes to have copies available for purchase at the fair, she said.

Blinn will also have a CD release party Oct. 22 at the Rumba Cafe in Columbus, she said.

She wrote five of the six songs on the album, she said. Two of the tracks, “Choices” and “Weather Or Not,” are available for preview on Blinn’s website at ericablinn.com. Her album is about life and having a good time, she said.
