Shirlee Marie Getahun, 66, of Columbus and formerly of Delaware passed away Tuesday (Aug. 2, 2011) at OSU Medical Center in Columbus.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1945 in Delaware to the late Paul Simpson and Lillie (Penn) Ervin of Delaware. A graduate of Willis High School in 1962, she earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Cal State LA. Shirlee returned to Delaware in 2007 after spending 46 years in Los Angeles, where she worked as a physician’s assistant. Beautiful both inside and out, she was the type of person who would do anything for anyone in need. Forever thoughtful and always generous, she will be remembered for her love of family and warm endearing smile.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by sisters, Paulette (Edward) White, Melonee (Ernest) Nunley and Seara Johnson, all of Delaware; brother, Forrest (Patricia) Banks of Columbus; and nieces, nephews and a host of friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mula Getahun.
In keeping with her wishes a remembrance of her life will be celebrated at a time convenient to her family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware.
