Ruth Justine Knight

Ruth Jus­tine Knight, 90, of Delaware passed away Thurs­day (May 24, 2012) in The Inn At Olen­tangy Trail after a lengthy bat­tle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Delaware County to Wal­ter and Ruth (Craw­ford) McNamee. She grad­u­ated from the for­mer Brown School and Bliss Busi­ness School in Colum­bus. Jus­tine lived her entire life­time in Delaware County except dur­ing World War II when she fol­lowed her hus­band, Ken, to Texas. She worked as a restau­rant man­ager for Ekelberry’s, as a typ­ist at State Auto Mutual Insur­ance in Colum­bus, but for most of her career, she worked as a book­keeper for Matthews and then Dauben­speck account­ing firms. Jus­tine vol­un­teered more than 15 years at Peo­ple In Need (PIN) help­ing to dis­trib­ute food to needy families.

Jus­tine was a char­ter mem­ber of the Lion’s Lady Club and received the Lioness of the Year Award twice for her count­less hours of vol­un­teer ser­vice and had been a mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Legion Aux­il­iary, the Jane M. Case Hos­pi­tal Aux­il­iary, the Sarah Moore Home Ser­vice Board and Delaware Mother’s Club. She was also a mem­ber of St. Mark’s Evan­gel­i­cal Lutheran Church.

Jus­tine is sur­vived by her three chil­dren, Sherry (Tom) Childers of Pick­er­ing­ton, John (Dawn) of Mari­etta, Ga., and Bunny (Steve) McKay of Lewis Cen­ter; two sis­ters, Polly Koster of Baudette, Minn., and Irene Baker of Colum­bus; a brother, Wal­ter C. McNamee of LaGrange; as well as seven grand­chil­dren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Ken­neth L. Knight in 1988.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Mon­day at the Robin­son Funeral Home where the funeral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Tues­day with the Rev. Bon­nie Ger­ber of Wor­thing­ton All Saints Lutheran Church officiating.
