Ruth Justine Knight
Ruth Justine Knight, 90, of Delaware passed away Thursday (May 24, 2012) in The Inn At Olentangy Trail after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Delaware County to Walter and Ruth (Crawford) McNamee. She graduated from the former Brown School and Bliss Business School in Columbus. Justine lived her entire lifetime in Delaware County except during World War II when she followed her husband, Ken, to Texas. She worked as a restaurant manager for Ekelberry’s, as a typist at State Auto Mutual Insurance in Columbus, but for most of her career, she worked as a bookkeeper for Matthews and then Daubenspeck accounting firms. Justine volunteered more than 15 years at People In Need (PIN) helping to distribute food to needy families.
Justine was a charter member of the Lion’s Lady Club and received the Lioness of the Year Award twice for her countless hours of volunteer service and had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Jane M. Case Hospital Auxiliary, the Sarah Moore Home Service Board and Delaware Mother’s Club. She was also a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Justine is survived by her three children, Sherry (Tom) Childers of Pickerington, John (Dawn) of Marietta, Ga., and Bunny (Steve) McKay of Lewis Center; two sisters, Polly Koster of Baudette, Minn., and Irene Baker of Columbus; a brother, Walter C. McNamee of LaGrange; as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Knight in 1988.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Robinson Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Bonnie Gerber of Worthington All Saints Lutheran Church officiating.
