For a while, the Hayes Pacers seemed to have the number of the New Albany Eagles. Then things turned.

New Albany scored 17 points in the second quarter after trailing by three, added three second half touchdowns and pulled away from the Pacers 45-17 in Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division action Friday in New Albany.

Hayes (3-6, 2-4 OCC Capital) opened the scoring with a Josh Bender nine-yard touchdown run, and after a tying New Albany (7-2, 5-1) touchdown, added a 27-yard Aly Smiley field goal in the second quarter to take a 10-7 lead on the hosts.

But the Eagles took the lead back for good on the ensuing kickoff as Adam Bodrick, who scored the first Eagle touchdown on a 56-yard pass from Zach Tomi, returned the ball 85 yards for the touchdown.

New Albany added a Danny Britton 38-yard run and a 32-yard field goal by Jimmy Gammill to take a 24-10 lead at the break, then added a 21-yard pass from Tomi to Darron Lee to up the edge to 31-10 after three quarters.

The Pacers pulled within two touchdowns in the fourth when Alex Rafeld and Ethan Nichol connected on a 14-yard touchdown pass, but two New Albany touchdown runs afterward put the game away.

Hayes closes its season with another OCC Capital contest at 7 p.m. Friday against Orange at Gauthier Field.
