David Glenwood Camp
David Glenwood Camp, 67, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and formerly of Delaware passed away Friday afternoon (June 15, 2012) at his residence after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Canton to the late Glenwood Delbert Camp and Harriet Jean (Gjertsen) Camp Schrader. David is a 1963 graduate of Dover High School and after attending the Ohio State University, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a jet aircraft mechanic sergeant from 1963 to 1967. He also served as a Delaware County Sheriff Deputy until he assumed ownership and operated Schrader’s Gun Shop in Delaware. He moved to California in 1994, where he worked at Pfizer Pharmaceutical in San Diego. He later relocated to Sierra Vista, where he worked on Fort Huachuca Army Base, testing new radio equipment for the U.S. Army. He was currently employed by the Cochise County Superior Courts as a security officer. David and his wife Lori attended the Sierra Vista Methodist Church and he was also a member of the First Christian Church in Canton. He was a proud member of the Mechanicsburg F&AM Lodge 113, Royal Arch Star Chapter 126 and 317th TCW Veterans Group. He enjoyed shooting with the Tucson Rifle Club and had a love for horses, especially loved trail riding in the California Mountains in Berrago, Calif.
David is survived by his wife and lifetime companion since 1994, Loretta “Lori” (Deel) Camp; two sons, Bill Camp of Delaware and Rich Hill (Ronda Davis) of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Barb (Jim) Torchia of Gahanna and Becky (Shawn) Zimmerman of Delaware; five grandsons, Wyatt and Hayden Hill of Xenia, Shawn M. and Jacob Zimmerman of Delaware and Alex Morgan of Fort Campbell, Ky.; granddaughter, Ashley (Tyler) Walker of Delaware; great-grandson, Ethan Walker of Delaware; sister, Donna Camp Nichols (Bradley Leighton) of Escondido, Calif.; sister-in-law, Ethel McCumber of Delaware; four brothers-in-law, Arnold (Judy) Deel of Foley, Ala., Thurman (Ann) Deel of Okeechobee, Fla., Ernest (Wilma) Deel of Radnor and Bill (Brenda) Deel of Delaware; close friend, Maria Poplachan of Canton; and numerous families and friends in Dover, Canton, Sierra Vista and San Diego.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Drive, Delaware. Masonic services will follow at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association. The family will then host a reception in the Snyder-Rodman Community Room.
