David Glenwood Camp

David Glen­wood Camp, 67, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and for­merly of Delaware passed away Fri­day after­noon (June 15, 2012) at his res­i­dence after a long bat­tle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Can­ton to the late Glen­wood Del­bert Camp and Har­riet Jean (Gjert­sen) Camp Schrader. David is a 1963 grad­u­ate of Dover High School and after attend­ing the Ohio State Uni­ver­sity, he served his coun­try in the U.S. Air Force as a jet air­craft mechanic sergeant from 1963 to 1967. He also served as a Delaware County Sher­iff Deputy until he assumed own­er­ship and oper­ated Schrader’s Gun Shop in Delaware. He moved to Cal­i­for­nia in 1994, where he worked at Pfizer Phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal in San Diego. He later relo­cated to Sierra Vista, where he worked on Fort Huachuca Army Base, test­ing new radio equip­ment for the U.S. Army. He was cur­rently employed by the Cochise County Supe­rior Courts as a secu­rity offi­cer. David and his wife Lori attended the Sierra Vista Methodist Church and he was also a mem­ber of the First Chris­t­ian Church in Can­ton. He was a proud mem­ber of the Mechan­ics­burg F&AM Lodge 113, Royal Arch Star Chap­ter 126 and 317th TCW Vet­er­ans Group. He enjoyed shoot­ing with the Tuc­son Rifle Club and had a love for horses, espe­cially loved trail rid­ing in the Cal­i­for­nia Moun­tains in Berrago, Calif.

David is sur­vived by his wife and life­time com­pan­ion since 1994, Loretta “Lori” (Deel) Camp; two sons, Bill Camp of Delaware and Rich Hill (Ronda Davis) of Tuc­son, Ariz.; two daugh­ters, Barb (Jim) Torchia of Gahanna and Becky (Shawn) Zim­mer­man of Delaware; five grand­sons, Wyatt and Hay­den Hill of Xenia, Shawn M. and Jacob Zim­mer­man of Delaware and Alex Mor­gan of Fort Camp­bell, Ky.; grand­daugh­ter, Ash­ley (Tyler) Walker of Delaware; great-grandson, Ethan Walker of Delaware; sis­ter, Donna Camp Nichols (Bradley Leighton) of Escon­dido, Calif.; sister-in-law, Ethel McCum­ber of Delaware; four brothers-in-law, Arnold (Judy) Deel of Foley, Ala., Thur­man (Ann) Deel of Okee­chobee, Fla., Ernest (Wilma) Deel of Rad­nor and Bill (Brenda) Deel of Delaware; close friend, Maria Poplachan of Can­ton; and numer­ous fam­i­lies and friends in Dover, Can­ton, Sierra Vista and San Diego.

The fam­ily will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thurs­day, June 21, at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Cen­ter, 1510 W. William St. at Val­ley­side Drive, Delaware. Masonic ser­vices will fol­low at 8 p.m. Funeral ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Fri­day, June 22, at the funeral home. Bur­ial will fol­low in Oak Grove Ceme­tery with mil­i­tary hon­ors pro­vided by the Delaware County Vet­er­ans Asso­ci­a­tion. The fam­ily will then host a recep­tion in the Snyder-Rodman Com­mu­nity Room. Con­tri­bu­tions may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
